Our projects about significant individuals

Learning our St Kenelm through religious art

Celebrating our feast day!

Year 1 Design and Technology day.
We watched a clip of Land Yachts and discussed how they are powered by the wind. Then we designed a sail for our own Land Yachts and assembled the kit to make our models. Then the real fun began - testing our Land yachts out!

We love throwing paper snowballs to share our ideas with each other. Here we are working together in Rights and Responsibilities week- What responsibilities for our world do we have?

Following Jesus today

Our EBL question this term - ‘Are humans called to love?’ We have been learning about a man called George Cadbury and how he believed his employees deserved to have a better quality of life. He built his chocolate factory in the countryside of Bournville in 1879 and also houses for his workers and their family to live in.

Today, we visited Cadbury World to learn more about life in the Victorian times and also to taste some yummy chocolate!

To start our work on Following Jesus Today, we looked at some of the key symbols of baptism in Y1. Thank you for sharing your beautiful an very precious white garments children.

We made our own delicious 1960s school pudding as part of our history and DT topics this half term.

Learning about each others cultures and faiths as part of multicultural week.

We had a lesson in our outdoor classroom about different customs and traditions within our families. The children drew pictures in chalk on the playground and shared their traditions with each other. We love outdoor learning!

We have been learning about the various cultures of families within our school community and have been lucky enough to have some fantastic ‘guest speakers’ sharing their knowledge and traditions with us. What a fabulous week of learning we have had in Year 1!

We have been sharing into halves and quarters this week. Today we read a story called ‘The Pizza Princess’ and then we designed our pizza so each half was the same.

We really loved coming to school in our pyjamas today and sharing our favourite books with our friends in Year 6.

In maths this week, we have been doing lots of practical work to share into equal groups.

We really enjoyed being superheroes today! What a fun way to raise money for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Year 1 were so reverent and reflective during our school retreat day today. We have reflected on the meaning of the words of The Lord’s Prayer. During our prayer service we expressed our gratitude to God for the things we are thankful for and we also said sorry for the times that we have not made ‘good choices.’

We learned the words to The Lord’s Prayer in song and put in some actions as well. Watch our video clips. 👀💃🕺

During Vocations week, we have been learning that a vocation is more than just a job - it is a calling by God. We may be called to serve in different ways - through, marriage, parenthood or by joining the priesthood or religious life.

Special thanks to our parents who have been sharing their vocations with us this week- we were truly inspired! 🙏🏼👮‍♂️🚔👩‍⚕️🩺🐍🦜❤️
