The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is statutory for all Year 4 children in Primary Schools.
The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.
Schools will have a 3-week check window from Monday 5th June to administer the MTC. Teachers will have the flexibility to administer the check to individual pupils, small groups or a whole class at the same time.
A Parent Workshop will be scheduled to provide further information about the MTC and how you can support your child in preparing at home.
Below is some information for Parents from Gov.uk about the MTC. This was the guidance published for 2022. No updated guidance has been published at the moment. However, if there are any updates I will inform you immediately:
Please also use the Multiplication 2Do on Purple Mash to practice the MTC in a format which is identical to the real check
