Nurture (SEMH)

"Bringing out the best in everyone, for the benefit of all, in the Spirit of Christ"

What is nurture?

Nurture is a focussed intervention that addresses the social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs of children that could create barriers to their learning and personal growth. It gives children the opportunity to take a break from school and home life to focus upon themselves and immerse themselves in activities that allow them to relax and regulate.

All pupils at Our Lady and St Kenelm are given frequent opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills and attributes in personal wellbeing through curriculum subjects and school life. However, children who require additional support in managing their SEMH needs meet in small groups each week to take part in activities that support their personal development.

What will nurture help my child with?

Nurture provides many benefits for children including:

  • opportunities to build positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • increased feelings of security.
  • increased self-confidence.
  • reducing attainment gaps.
  • increasing ability to communicate with others.
  • increasing ability to regulate emotions and anxiety.
  • increased independence.
  • positive wellbeing.

The list is endless!
