We ended our amazing Vocations week with a visit from Father Bruce and Kynan.  Kynan was a pupil at OLSK and is thinking about training to be a priest himself.  They shared their calling from God and His influence in their lives.  We were able to ask questions and we certainly learnt a lot about vocations.  What a lovely way to end a fantastic week!

Our wonderful Mini Vinnies from Y6 went on a shopping trip today, to purchase crafts, stationery and gifts, with the money raised from the Mini Vinnie Bake Off.

 

The girls organised the whole trip, knowing which shops to go to, for the best purchases, which made great financial sense; & they only took Mrs F with them to pay the bill. Lol 😂 

 

All of the gifts will be taken to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the next few weeks, to support the children who are in hospital.

 

Thank you to all the children & parents who gave so generously and to those who took part in the Bake Off. 

Today, some members of our Mini Vinnies travelled up to Our Lady of Fatima, in Quinton, to talk to their children about all the wonderful work we have been doing over this last year.

 

We had a very warm welcome form Mrs Harlow and her Mini Vinnies; when we then sat together to celebrate all our achievements and listen to how they’re getting on since they first started, earlier this year. We learnt such a lot from each other and we came a way with some great ideas, including an idea of hosting pyjama day, to raise further funds for the SVP. 

 

We we made some new friends on our visit and we look forward to welcoming them to OLSK before the end of term. Thank you to Mrs Harlow and the children for making us really welcome in their lovely school and sharing their squash & biscuits with us. Thanks to Izzy, for baking yummy cakes to present to them before the meeting. What a truly wonderful morning, sharing all our God given talents and supporting the SVP; Turning concern into Action. 

Today, some of of our Liturgy Leaders attended the Good Shepherd Mass at the Cathedral in Birmingham , to present our offerings for Father Hudson’s Society. 

 

The Children were great ambassadors for our school and are a credit to their families. All of the monies raised, will help children & adults who are less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you for your generosity. 

 

After the service, we had the opportunity to visit St Paul’s book store to buy some items for the Peace Garden and the Prayer Bags. The Priest from the Cathedral was in the shop and blessed all the items we bought. 

During last term, our Mini Vinnies held an art designing competition; inviting everyone to design the Mini Vinnie mural for the corridor.

 

Another child in Y6, used her God given talents by painting the crucifix onto A4 paper, which was then transferred onto the wall! What a talented young lady she is! 

 

Many children responded to their call and designs came flooding in. Then during the half term holiday, their designs were turned into reality with the help of Matt Johnson, a past pupil, who painted their mural onto the wall! 

 

Wow! What a wonderful achievement for all those who supported the Mini Vinnies, with their call!! 

 

June 3 2018, Corpus Christi we announce the launch the Year for Priests in the Archdiocese of Birmingham. The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 8 will mark the start of a Year for Priests in the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

This is a year of thanksgiving, prayer and celebration for the priests of this diocese, in preparation for a national celebration of priesthood on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart in 2019.

The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is set aside by the Church as a day of prayer and intercession for the sanctification of priests.

This year sees the 450th anniversary of the foundation of the English College, Douai, the first institution to form priests for the mission in England after the Reformation. From Douai, colleges were founded across France, Spain and Portugal, and in Rome.

These colleges trained the priests, without whom Catholicism would almost certainly have died out in England and Wales. 

For generations, priests were regarded as traitors and lived under cover, in fear of their lives; hundreds were martyred for their witness to Christ and His Church.

Even in later times, priests were few in number, poorly resourced and socially excluded.

Without their resilience and courage, the Church we have today would not exist.

 

For Multicultural week, KS1 have enjoyed learning about all the our communities. Thank you to the children and parents who have volunteered their time to teach us about your cultures. We have learned so much.

Thank you to the amazing Mr Fred Millinson & the band from Hagley High School, who came to celebrate the God given talents of the young musicians and share their gifts and talents with us. What a great way to end the half term. The children & staff loved hearing all the live music & singing all the hymns; Fred rocked the hall as usual. It was wonderful to see our past pupils in the band, they have clearly continued their passion for playing a musical instrument, which they started, here at OLSK!

Congratulations to all those who took part in the competition; it was a very close contest and very difficult to judge. The winners were announced in our Congratulations Assembly today. All monies raised will go to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
