How can I speak up or act when someone’s rights are not respected?
In Summer 2, by answering our CST question of “How can I speak up or act when someone's rights are not respected?”, children will investigate rivers and the important role they play in supporting communities, wildlife, and the environment. They will explore how rivers provide water, transport, food, and energy, helping people meet the needs of society both in the past and today. Children will link this learning to Rights and Responsibilities, considering our shared responsibility to care for rivers and protect natural resources for future generations. This will also lead to discussions about environmental issues such as pollution, flooding, water conservation, and climate change, and how sustainable actions can help protect our planet.
In this term, children will investigate the lasting importance of rivers while reflecting on the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Rights and Responsibilities. This principle encourages them to understand that everyone has the right to clean water and a healthy environment, and that we all have a responsibility to care for the world around us. Through their studies of rivers, children will gain a deeper understanding of how human actions can positively or negatively affect the environment and communities, and how working together can help protect natural resources and support people across the world, further building upon prior knowledge.
