What can I do to help everyone feel like they belong?
CST: Family & Community
Gospel Virtues: Learned & Wise
British Values: Democracy
This half term our learning is rooted in the Catholic Social Teaching theme of Family and Community, guided by the question: “What can I do to help everyone feel like they belong?” Throughout the term, we will reflect on the importance of being part of a family, school, and wider community. Through stories, discussions, and hands-on experiences, we will explore how kindness, respect, inclusion, and looking after one another can help everyone feel valued, welcomed, and that they belong.
As geographers, the children will explore the unit of “What is it like here?” They will learn about their local area and discover the human and physical features that make it special. Using maps and simple fieldwork, children will identify landmarks, green spaces, and natural features, thinking about how people use and share these places. They will develop their geographical vocabulary, learn to describe what they see, and begin to understand their place within their local community and the wider world.
By the end of the unit, the children will create their own simple maps and drawings to show what makes their local area unique and special. They will reflect on how they can help everyone feel like they belong by being kind, welcoming others, respecting their community, and taking care of the places they share. This learning journey will help them understand that everyone has an important part to play in building a caring and inclusive community.
