Spring 2

Exploring patterns in our mathematical learning- the children challenged themselves to continue a repeating pattern. Some needed adult support while others could successfully complete the task independently.

Wow look at our learning on Physical Thursday whereby we are developing our fine motor skills - we assessed the jigsaws, built with the stickle bricks and the inter stars. The children used the various stencils and enjoyed doing some free painting. .

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day - pre school loved showing off their green clothes and hearing the story of Saint Patrick. We shared some Irish ☘️ music and some children wanted to showcase their Irish dancing skills. Thank you God for sending the sunshine we spent a lot of time outside .

Stay and Pray with our parents - whereby we shared the story from the Gospel “ Jesus healed the Blind Man” and discussed how we can be more like Jesus and follow in his footsteps during our Lenten Journey. Afterwards we planted our Christmas Tree in Mary’s Garden and shared her special prayer with her. We hope to watch it grow as we grow throughout our school journey. Thank you Mr Cooper for gifting it to us and planting it.

Physical Development - the children were very confident using the small balls and scoops. Some worked as a pair whilst others worked on their own. They are developing their hand eye coordination and spatial awareness. Really impressed with their listening skills in the outdoor environment and how they all followed the instructions.

Mathematical and Physical Development the children work independently or as a group and create and build with the variety of construction kits.

Literacy Development- The children practise their fine motor skills when they join in with Write Dance. They listen to the music and move the pens in time, holding one pen in each hand. They also practice making shapes and patterns in the sand, glitter and flour. All these activities support them as they begin to write their names and learn their phonics.

Our focus story is “ The Little Red Hen” it focuses on how important is to share and work as a team. The children were shocked that the characters did not help the Little Red Hen. We made our own dough and pretended we were making bread 🍞 which we will be actually making next week.

World Book Day - the children came dressed as their favourite character. They drew a picture of their character and discussed with an adult what their character can do and why they like them.

Our writing opportunities in Pre school whereby the children are practising their Literacy skills and fine motor development.

After stay and pray we spent time in the “ Peace Garden” allowing us time to reflect, pray and share some calm time - as Jesus did when he spent 40days in the desert.

We began our session by moving around to the sound of the drum keeping in time with the beat. Then we explored different ways of balancing the beanball on our body parts. Our focus was to practise throwing the bean bags into a target. We discussed aiming, and explored ways in which to throw the object effectively. The children were great at listening and following instructions, confident at finding a space and showing awareness of others.

Our learning is all about SHARING this term and you can see the children practicing these skills in their play whilst in the outdoor classroom. They can share resources and are beginning to turn take. They are communicating their thoughts and ideas to each other, It was beautiful to observe the engaging learning taking place.

Our focus book is “ Sharing a shell” the children have listened to the story attentively and were able to recall key events from the book. Some children are beginning to use the key vocabulary scuttle, shelter, Bristle worm, tentacle and hermit crab linked to the story. We have explored the water and sand play to remind us where the story is set ( at the seaside) The children have been very creative and created their own rock pools using a variety of collage resources and art medians.
