Summer 2

Summer 2 - Rights and Responsibilities
Would you like to live in a desert?

During Summer term Year 5 will be learning about desert biomes in Geography, exploring the climate, landscapes, plants, animals, and the challenges faced by people living in these environments. The children investigated how extreme temperatures and limited access to water can affect daily life and communities around the world. They also compared different desert regions and considered how humans adapt to survive in harsh conditions.

This learning has linked closely to Catholic Social Teaching, particularly the principle of Rights and Responsibilities. Pupils reflected on how everyone has the right to access clean water, food, shelter, and a safe environment. They discussed the responsibility we all share in caring for the Earth and supporting communities affected by climate challenges and environmental issues. Through this topic, Year 5 have developed a greater understanding of global inequality, stewardship, and the importance of showing compassion and respect for others.
