  • Coronavirus Update!

    Sun 15 Mar 2020

What is the school currently doing to reduce the chances of the virus getting into school?

    • We are closely monitoring the local and national picture. 
    • We are liaising closely with Dudley Local Authority who are liaising with the Department for Education and Public Health England. 
    • We are teaching the children best hygiene practice and would encourage you to continue to discuss hygiene with your children. 
    • We have increased the cleaning on key touch points (handles, buttons, rails etc.).
    • Every classroom and communal areas are already cleaned daily. 
    • We continue to use tissues for each class to ensure these can be offered out if a child has a cold, and we are reminding children to sneeze or blow their nose into a tissue and to wash their hands – “catch it, bin it, kill it!” 
    • We are ensuring that children wash their hands thoroughly before mealtimes and when they have gone to the toilet. 
    • We are monitoring any child or staff absence and are asking about any symptoms they may have and advising accordingly. 
    • We are looking at how we can adapt any activities which have an increased potential of the spreading of virus e.g. food tasting, assemblies. 
    • We are continuing to monitor the risk of any external trips or visits.

What will the school do if there is a confirmed case in school?

    • We will immediately contact the local authority and take advice from them, Public Health England and the guidance in place at that time from the World Health Organisation. 
    • Mrs Finnegan will liaise with the Chair of Governors to discuss the advice and decide whether we feel that is sufficient. We will then make a decision as to what needs to happen. 
    • We will ensure we communicate as promptly as possible and keep parents well informed (the text system will be used to communicate).
  • The Department of Education have a helpline up and running to answer questions about COVID19 related to education. Staff, parents and young people can contact the helpline as follows: Phone: 0800 046 8687 or email: DfE.coronavirushelpline@education.gov.uk

  • Latest update from the Public Health Department regarding the Coronavirus

    Tue 10 Mar 2020

    Dear Parent/Carer

You may be aware there has been a confirmed case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Dudley.

However, risk remains low to the public and the NHS is well prepared for these types of incidents.

The best way to protect yourself and your child from Coronavirus is to follow the Catch it, Bin it, Kill it advice and to wash hands with soap & water for at least 20 seconds. More frequent hand washing is advised particularly before touching your mouth, eyes or before eating food.

Based on current evidence, Coronavirus (COVID-19) presents with flu-like symptoms including a fever, a cough, or difficulty breathing. The current evidence is that most cases appear to be mild. Anyone who is concerned about health symptoms is advised to follow the advice about what to do on the Government’s website at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public and nhs.uk at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

    FAQs

    • The infection is mild for most people, including children. Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease) may be at higher risk of more serious illness.

    • Most people get better with enough rest, and plenty to eat and drink.

How likely are you to catch the virus?

    • The chance of being in contact with the virus is currently low in the UK.

    • You can only catch it if; you have been close to a person who has the virus (less than 2 metres for more than 15 minutes) or by touching a contaminated surface, then touching your mouth or eyes without washing your hands first.

  • Y5 Rock Birmingham Town Hall

    Fri 14 Feb 2020

On 13th February, Y5 joined with other Primary schools to rock Birmingham Town Hall at the Hagley Pyramid Concert. It was a long day with lots of rehearsing led by Mr Mallinson followed by the final concert.

We want to say how very proud we are of the way that all of the children conducted themselves throughout the day with their behaviour, manners and attitude.  The concert was AMAZING and OLSK shone out, once again, as a hard act to follow.

Well done to all of the children in Y5 as well as Mr Hyde and Mrs Morris who helped to prepare the children beforehand.

A big thank-you to all of the staff and families who made it on the evening to support our children.  I'm sure you will all agree that it was well worth the money.

We are now planning for the 2021 concert - Brit Pop!!
