Summer 1 - Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
What is the Legacy of the Ancient Greek Civilisation?

During the first half of the summer term, pupils will take on the role of historians as they explore the fascinating legacy of Ancient Greek civilisation. They will investigate key aspects of Greek life, including democracy, philosophy, art, architecture, and daily life, developing their skills in questioning, interpreting evidence, and making connections with the past.
Alongside their historical learning, pupils will be guided by the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers. They will reflect on how work was viewed and organised in Ancient Greece, including the roles of citizens, craftsmen, and enslaved people. Through this, pupils will begin to understand the importance of fairness, respect, and justice in the workplace, both in the past and in today’s world.
By comparing Ancient Greek society with modern values, pupils will deepen their understanding of human dignity, recognising that all people are created in God’s image and deserve to be treated with respect. They will also consider how rights at work have developed over time and why it is important to stand up for fairness and equality.
