Spring 2

Why is it important to share? Is there enough for everyone?

Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
Gospel Virtues: Intentional and Prophetic
British Values: Mutual Respect

This half term in Reception, we will be exploring the importance of sharing, fairness and thinking about whether there is enough for everyone. Through our topic stories,  Sharing a Shell, The Little Red Hen and I Can Share, the children will discuss how characters feel, whether situations are fair and how problems can be solved kindly.

Across all areas of learning, children will develop their understanding that sharing helps friendships grow and builds strong communities. They will practise taking turns, cooperating in games and group tasks, and noticing when someone may need help. In Mathematics, they will explore sharing practically by making equal groups and comparing amounts, beginning to understand that fair does not always mean everyone gets the same.

Through our Catholic Social Teaching focus, Option for the Poor and Vulnerable, children will learn that as part of our faith we believe we are called to care for people who have less than we do. We will talk about how small acts of kindness, generosity and cooperation can help ensure there is enough for everyone.

By the end of this topic, children will understand that sharing, kindness and fairness help us to live well together as part of God’s family.
