Hello! Welcome to your Year 5 class page. I hope you have had a wonderful summer break and are looking forward to the return to school in September. Please read through this page where hopefully I can answer some of your questions about the exciting world of Year 5.
Which teachers will I have?
I look forward to teaching you all, and to see how you have progressed since last year as I have heard amazing things from Mrs Harris! We have so many exciting experiences and topics to learn about this year. I am excited to see what the new academic year brings!
Mrs McCahill will be supporting of the wonderful teaching and learning in Y5! Please be sure to ask for any help :)
What is it like to be a child in Y5?
First of all, it's full of fun! As you will already know, Y5 do lots of exciting things throughout the year, including Young Voices! As well as that, Y5 help out a lot around school- we do all the jobs that Y6 are too busy to do! This means that as a member of Y5, you must be responsible, independent and a role model to the younger children in school. You are getting more grown up now and will be going to high school in a couple of years! This means you need to be responsible for remembering your own things like PE kits- your parents don't need to do everything for you!
Class Dojo and Minutes
This year we are still using Dojo points in class and I'm sure that you're all desperate to be on that bouncy castle next year! So you must make sure you are shining out and making the right choices to win points for your house!
As usual, we will be having Golden Time on a Friday, so if you make the wrong behaviour choices then you will be given minutes off that time. I hope that now you are Y5, you are sensible enough to make the right choices so that I won't be needing minutes!
What homework will I get?
Our first History topic this year is all about the 'Vikings' and whether they really were raiders, traders or something else? It is important to build on the skills you have learnt as this will enable you to become authentic historians. You will have a week to do your research- make sure that this is done so that you are ready for the upcoming lesson!
You will also have maths, SPAG homework and also spellings every week and you will get a whole week for these too! These are available on our class webpage, so no excuses! :)
It is very important that you read to an adult at home every evening. Make sure your adult signs your reading record so that myself or Mrs McCahill know that you have been reading at home. In Y5 it is your responsibility to change your reading book frequently.
PE, Swimming and Forest School
We will be having PE on a Wednesday as normal with Sports Plus and also on a Friday.
We will also be going swimming on a Tuesday later on in the year. This will commence after February half term up until the end of the academic year.
Mrs Morris will also be taking us out for forest school every few weeks and I know that she has got lots of exciting activities planned! Make sure you remember whichever kit you need for the right day so that you can take part in everything!
We can’t wait to welcome you into Year 5, and we are so excited for the year ahead to do lots of learning and make lots of memories.
Love Miss Woodfield x
