Our summer 2 Learning Journey

Literacy development- the children enjoying some down time after the celebrations

We had so much fun celebrating OLSK turning 60 - we dressed up in 60th clothes, played party πŸŽ‰ games and share ice lollies.

Physical Development - all the children loved the Bouncy Castle 🏰 β€œ Happy 60th Birthday 🎈 β€œ to our school.

As our time comes to an end together in Pre School - the children have really formed lasting friendships which will continue into Reception. The children have really developed their personal, social and emotional skills.

The children are beginning to learn about Marriage as one of our sacraments in RE. We added some wedding related items to our Altar and introduced the children to key new vocabulary such as Bride, Groom, veil, commitment. Some could relate to the topic and share when they have attended a wedding. They talked about seeing pictures of their parents getting married and also their grandparents. We explored why people get married and what happens in a ceremony. We will be acting out our own β€œ Marriage β€œ in the next couple of weeks. The children are eager to play the different parts and dress up to celebrate which we will organise within Pre School.

Personal, social and emotional development is fundamental in Early Years and we provide lots of quality for the children to communicate and interact with one another.

Look at some of our learning after out trip - we wrote about it and did some beautiful collage work β€œ Parrots” 😊 super keen writers beginning to use their phonic knowledge and amazing artists expressing themselves. Truly love all your hard work .

Expressive Arts and Design - as a whole school we were hosting an Art Exhibition linked to our Superheroes in our community- in EYFS we focused on Firefighters and the AMAZING work they do. Our Artist we explored was Vincent Van Gogh.Focussing on the textures he made using a paintbrush and different materials. The media was paint and collage - the children loved the different techniques, and being chosen to be drawn around to create the silhouette. The final piece of Art was stunning and will be displayed in Haden Hill Fire Station β€œ we feel truly proud β€œ Well done all our amazing artists πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ¨.

The children enjoyed planting the hanging baskets to display outside pre School to celebrate our school being 60 years old this year! πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰

Understanding the World is an area of learning we love - this week we have talking about the difference between materials and changes we notice. The children explored the ice and thought about ways to melt it to rescue the sea creatures. Also we planted our flowers in our hanging baskets and discussed how we can take care of them. They are fascinated when they discover a mini beast in the outdoor area - so we put our Bugs out for them to play with.

We love reading and writing in Pre School. We have a shared reading session every week whereby we all sit together and appreciate our wonderful books. This is so important as we are able to practice our communication skills and develop new vocabulary. The children are beginning to understand the five key concepts about print. Super proud of them.

Look at our Art work linked to our focus book β€œ The Rainbow Fish” We have explored different textures when doing our collage work and painting using different materials. We are developing our cutting skills as we discuss what creatures live in the sea.

Can you spot our beautiful β€œPentecost β€œ hats ?

The children have learnt about β€œ Pentecost β€œ - the Holy Spirit who is a special helper. They learnt that Red is the colour associated with this season. After the prayer service the children made a hat of flames to represent the disciples β€œ speaking many languages β€œ
