Prayer and Liturgy and our RE learning! We have been focusing on how we could be a good Shepherd and the things we could go without to help others just like Jesus chose to help people in many ways.
This week we have been learning about Fire Fighters and the Great Fire of London. We found the history of the Great Fire so interesting and count not believe that they put the fire off with buckets!
In maths the children have been using practical contexts to sort objects according to different criteriaβs.
Using our new activity books from our Police visit!
People Who Help Us. We had a Police Officer come and visit us in class. The children asked so many brilliant questions and loved talking to the Police Officer to find out more!
We created a toolbox for St Josephβs feast day, he was a carpenter who loved and cared for his family. We discussed how St Joseph taught Jesus to be a carpenter and how we learn things from our families just like Jesus learnt from St Joseph.
Today in maths we have been learning about bonds to 10 in 3 parts. We chose three different coloured objects and used ten frames to find out how many ways we could make 10 in 3 parts.
Bike ability, focusing on walking the bike in a lane and riding in a lane.
This week in maths we have been exploring composition by focusing on when 2 equal parts combine to make a whole and recognising when a double has been made. We then made our own doubles and equal parts in different ways.
In RE this week we have been learning about how God has gave us all the special gift of choosing and how we can use the gift to choose how we behave during Lent, thinking about the choices we make and how they can affect us and others. We also shared a pack of sweets as a class where we could all choose which colour we wanted, we spoke about how it felt to have the freedom of choosing and thanked God for this gift.

People Who Help Us! This week we have been creating paintings using cotton wool balls focusing on sirens and thinking about how these could look on paper. We have also been looking at Police uniform and how it has changed over time.

Science Week 2025!
Science Week 2025. Exploring how different sea animals change and adapt through yoga and discovering which material is best to wear in the dark!
Practicing our balancing skills in PE
In RE we listened to the parable of talents and discussed how we can use our God given gifts and talents during Lent. We shared ideas on what we can do to make our gifts and talents better and how we can use some of these gifts to help the poor and vulnerable. Some children said we can just share our gift of laughter to make people feel happy and others said we can make stuff to sell for charity.
This week we have been focusing on our CST story book βThe Invisibleβ. We thought about how Isabel in the story felt sad and lonely because she didnβt have a home, we discussed how we could make her happy and feel welcome at our school, we then created a picture of her life and brightened it up by blowing paint onto the picture through straws! We also explored building houses with Lego for the poor and vulnerable.
We have been looking at the composition of number to 7 and beyond. Singing songs, using small world toys, cubes and other activities we have been able to understand the composition of different numbers by investigating the parts and wholes.
World Book Day π
For world book day the children have been creating book marks for their reading books and have also took part in some shared reading with year 3!
Today we all had a look at some special Rosary beads that a child had brought in, they were Rosary of Jubilee 2025 beads. They were so lovely π
Building 9 and 10. Today the children have been comparing numbers to 10 using dominoβs and other resources in the classroom. They have also been looking at conceptual subitising where they can recognise the different groups in numbers.
Lent activities βοΈ
Our first Liturgy and Prayer during the season of Lent. We talked about Lent and what this is and how we can pray together as a class through the season.
Ash Wednesday
Today we have been learning about plants and how they grow. We discussed the 4 basic things a plant needs to grow and how we can help plants both inside and outside. We then did some observational drawings of the plants outside.
Monday Learning!
The children listened to the story βThe Zoo Vetβ today, we shared discussions about what the different animals had done and the equipment the Vet used to diagnose them and make them feel better.
In Maths this week we have began focusing on comparison, and the ordinality of numbers in relation to each other. We will be focusing on the language of fewer than and more than.
To start our week off we began by saying our morning prayer as we all held a small heart from our class jar of hope, after saying our prayer we spent some time holding our heart close to us to say something we hoped for in the coming week, this may be at home or school. We then collected the hearts back up and put them on our alter, if we feel we need more hope in the week we can get our heart back out of the jar and sit near the prayer table to have some time in reflection with God. We will do this every Monday.
Exploring length, height and time. We used sequencing cards to talk about time and sequenced how to make a Jam sandwich, we discussed our week and the activities we do on different days, talking about yesterday and tomorrow.

Practicing our throwing and catching skills in PE
This week in maths the children have been revisiting the concept of cardinality, understanding that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether. The children practiced counting beyond 20, focusing one the word pattern and knowing that each number is one more creating a staircase pattern.
Dance with Sports Plus, counting different dance moves to beats of 8.
Exploring our CST for this half term βOption for the poor and vulnerableβ. Through teaching and learning and activities focusing on building homes, designing new clothes, making prayer beads and writing what we are thankful to God for.
Liturgy and Prayer- How can we be a good example and follow in the footsteps of Jesus? We also explored our new gospel virtues for this half term.

14.02.25 Sending orange hearts of hope to those in need and spreading our love π§‘π§‘π§‘
In maths we have been identifying and making doubles. We know that a double is the same and twice as many. We used Numicon to explore making doubles.
Using our gross motor skills on the playground
We used our fine motor skills to peel plasters and use them to create a βhealed heartβ to represent Jesus healing our hearts.
Safer Internet Day 2025
During Prayer and Liturgy we listened to the Gospel of Luke 6:17 and heard how people put their trust in God. We spoke about what trust means, who we trust and how we can trust people around us. We then said a prayer to God asking for his trust in something we are finding hard at the moment.
Continuing to use the ten frames for one more and one less in maths.
So many fun activities this week! We have been using magnifying glasses to explore the animals in the tuff tray, leaf printing, using playdoh and matchsticks to create our own Gruffalo, writing about forest animals, reading stories together and much more!
This week the children have been focusing on comparison looking at differences and similarities between different objects of sizes, colour and shape and noticing when groups are equal or unequal, fewer or more.
Wow what a beautiful morning spent with our grandparents. We shared some of our favourite hymns, a prayer and poem about how important our relatives are to us.especially β Grandparents β It was lovely to be able to share the childrenβs work with their grown up whilst sharing a biscuit and a cup of juice.

Fridays Maths activities
In maths we have been deepening our understanding of one more and one less. We used a ten frame and counters to help our understanding and to check if our answers were correct.
In RE the children have been continuing their learning about people who help us. We already know that our family, friends, Father and the church community help us in so many ways and so we have moved on to exploring how Jesus helped people and showed his love and care through the calling of the disciples where he invited men and women to discipleship to be with him when he helped people, we discussed how some of his disciples were called Saints because they were such special helpers. We then talked about our class Saint and explored our school Saint.
This week the children have been exploring composition by recognising how numbers can be represented using the Hungarian number pattern (die pattern). Using the die patterns children were able to see the different pairs of numbers that make 5, as well as seeing what pair of numbers make 6 and 7 using a double die frame and representing this on their fingers.
This week for our topic we have been painting the Gruffalo and giving him some spikes on his back using sticks, we have been exploring forest animals through our own play scene on the tuff tray, writing responses from the forest animals thinking about what they would say or think if they saw the Gruffalo, we created a forest scene where we stuck all of the animals in the correct habitats and enjoyed playing some phonics games together.
Childrenβs Mental Health Week. We discussed the different feelings we feel in certain situations. We then talked about the things that make us happy and did some mindfulness colouring
This week our focus story is βThe Gruffaloβ we have been talking about all the different habitats they live in and also describing the Gruffalo himself.
Exploring capacity
In maths we have been exploring capacity. We used different sized containers to measure how many objects and scoops of sand we would need to fill the containers.
In RE we have been learning about the people we meet at church and how they help us, as well as our Priest and the work he does to help us all.
Forest School
In PE we marched, clapped and jumped to beats of 8, we checked with our partners that we were counting and moving to the beats at the same time, then put it together and danced to the music.
Today we made porridge, which linked to our focus story Goldilocks and the Three Bears, we even ate it with different toppings, yum yum!
We have been exploring different types of bears around the world, we followed step by step instructions to draw a bear and built a small, medium and large bed for the bears from our story.
We shared and acted out our Catholic Social Teaching story book βThat fruit is mineβ.

This week in maths the children have been learning about the counting and ordinality of numbers to five, understanding that the sequence of the numbers does not change and that each number has a value of 1 more than the previous number, linking to their knowledge of one more and one less.
Exploring the mass of porridge and other objects to find a balance.
Making the three bears favourite breakfast.. porridge! It was so yummy, we explored the ingredients and looked at the recipe to make it for ourselves.
Goldilocks and the three bears. Exploring trees, different breakfasts around the world, Making the bears bed with Lego, ordering objects in the correct order for the right bear and acting out the story.
Composition. Understanding that numbers are made up of more than one number.
The children have been learning about extinct and endangered animals. They enjoyed lots of activities about the deep dark woods.
In Prayer and Liturgy we listened to the bible story βdown by the riverβ and shared discussions about the Baptism of the Lord.
Maths- One more and One Less.
In Maths we have been learning about numerals and quantities, we looked at different numbers, represented them on our fingers and then found the correct amount of objects.
Forest School. It was so cold, the water inside the pots and pans had froze and turned into ice.
This half term we are learning about Dance in PE. We learnt part of a new dance.
Our first Prayer and Liturgy this half term was all about the Epiphany. We focused on the three Kings and thought about the journey they made to see baby Jesus. We also talked about their special gifts, and the gifts we could give to baby Jesus.
We have started our learning on the deep dark woods. Our focus book this week is little red riding hood.
We have been learning about the Epiphany. We dressed up as the three wise men and travelled around the classroom with gifts whilst following the star in search for baby Jesus.
