Focus story this week “ Goldilocks and the Three Bears” look at the learning which took place in continuous provision.
Physical Thursday - the children practised their balancing skills on various pieces of equipment in our outdoor classroom. They enjoyed throwing the balls and bean bags into the buckets and hoops.
Understanding the World - History.Whereby the children shared and talked about their family members at their Baptism.
Understanding the world - the children are noticing changes in Forest School due to the seasons. They are beginning to talk about the weather , what they can see, what they can feel, the muddy puddles are very popular.
Understanding the world - RE learning. The children are continuing to learn about Baptism and heard about when Jesus was Baptised in the river Jordan by John the Baptist- the older children acted out the Bible story. Our younger members shared their Baptism photos with each other and shared special items from our prayer area such as Mother Mary, Holy water, Rosary Beads. We all come together for prayers and our active hymns. The children decorated their name plaque to celebrate the name they were given my their parents at the sacrament. Some children even made a Baptism Candle independently.
The children have been exploring porridge in our feely tray this week as it is linked to our focus story “ Goldilocks and the Three Bears” so for our science and maths learning today we made some porridge and enjoyed tasting it and “ It was just right” said the children.
Dance Focus during our PE sessions - whereby the focus of learning is for the children to respond to words and music using their bodies and props. We were imagining different types of weather and asking the children to move like the weather they were able to suggest different weather they have experienced. They are beginning to listen to the music and move accordingly they used turns and jumps both high and low. Some children were confident to perform in front of their peers and majority were able to observe and show empathy.
For our maths learning we were focusing on patterns, noticing patterns and arranging things in patterns. The children are beginning to clap along to rhymes and can use musical instruments to make simple beats. In provision the children are independently making simple line patterns with various objects. The children explored a range of different objects to print with to create their own line pattern.
Physical Development - fine motor skills. The children regularly work in small groups to access the “Dough Disco” performing the various movements strengthening their muscles in their hands. This will help children when writing, drawing and painting.
Physical Development ( fine motor skills) and Expressive,Arts, Design - the children enjoyed threading the laces and other pipe cleaners whereby they had to really concentrate and used both hands to thread the small beads. This activity challenges their hand eye co ordination and their resilience. Also their drawing skills are developing with some children adding lots of detail but all giving meaning to their art work.
Physical Development - Thanks to a very generous family we received some new vehicles in Pre School- which the children loved.
Our Afternoon “ Baptism “ whereby our children played different characters and shared their prior knowledge with the afternoon children. After the ceremony the children put their thoughts down on paper and expressed themselves by drawing and writing. They are able to talk about their drawings and give meaning to their writing.
We celebrated the sacrament of “ Baptism “ whereby the children arrived to pre school in their own clothes and added some accessories from our dressing up box. We discussed the various roles such as mother, father, Godparents, Priest, organist and choir. We prepared the baby in his white garment and then the congregation processioned into the church after blessing themselves. The children were so reverent and respectful during the ceremony and are beginning to remember key events and vocabulary. We shared prayers and hymns and listened to organ music. The children have bought photographs in of their own Baptism and we will be sharing them next week to discuss their own experiences and memories of the day they became members of God’s family.
Expressive Arts and Design - the children enjoyed playing the variety of musical instruments trying to maintain a steady beat. They responded to the music and would play loudly and then play quietly as the music altered. They stopped playing when the music stopped.
Maths Focus - The children are beginning to recognise that anything can be counted. The children are more confident with verbally counting, and are starting to count sounds. They rolled a dice and counted the spots then chose a musical instruments to create that many beats on the drum or taps on the tambourine. Some children can confidently subitise, and all are attempting to copy fingers to represent the correct amount on the dice. This is an opportunity to begin to order number names.
Communication, Language Development - Social Development are our prime areas of learning in Early Years . This week the children were engaged in their learning playing alongside each other sharing resources and taking turns.
Physical Development and Personal,Social and Emotional Development - The children thoroughly enjoyed the parachute games, listening attentively and working as a team.
Wow what a great PE session whereby all children listened to the instructions and engaged actively in the learning. They were aware of their peers as they moved around the space, they could change their pace of movements, change direction and move in different ways. They are beginning to understand the importance of warming up and stretching.
The Celebration of the Epiphany was magical the children enjoyed dressing up as “ The wise Men” and the main star. We shared prayers and hymns linked to the “ Wise Men”
Circle time to introduce our new topic “ Who lives in the deep dark woods?” the children shared their ideas and I wrote them down. Some children are able to recognise their initial sounds from their names in the words I wrote on the board. The children then expressed their thoughts and ideas in picture form.
Understanding the world - the children were so excited that it had snowed - so we bought the snow inside for the children to explore using their senses.
