Our Spring 1 Learning Journey

Wow look at our Art work - the children painted characters from our traditional tales. They are also practicing their writing skills in different areas of the setting.

Expressive Arts and Design - the children explore different materials freely to develop their own ideas. Joining different materials and explore different textures. Also they have enjoyed exploring the clay which helps to strengthen their muscles in their hands. In the feely tray this week we have put pink cooked spaghetti for the children to practice their cutting skills.

Physical Development - The children are beginning to find a “ space” in the hall and use their bodies in a variety of ways to travel and respond the traffic lights symbols. They practiced working with a partner to travel together using their communication skills. We then introduced the parachute for the children to begin to take part in group activities which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Literacy Development - sharing books with our peers beginning to use the concepts linked to “ Reading “ such as print carries meaning, the names of the different parts of the book and page sequencing. It is lovely to see how their concentration has developed since joining pre school and how engaged they are in conservations about stories, learning new vocabulary. One of the children felt confident enough to tell a story to her peers and take on the role of “ teacher”

Our children certainly “ Dressed to Express” and showed unique they are. We danced together , sang songs and played a variety of instruments to express ourselves.

This week is Mental Health week for children whereby we are exploring our emotions and discussing our feelings. We revisited the colour monster story and all the children could remember the different emotions in our jars.

The children were scientists as they explored the water and worked out how to use the tubes together

The children were exploring the word Hope and we discussed what they HOPE to be when they are grown up. The children were able to share with an adult and express their ideas through drawings.

Our Launch day for “ The Jubilee Year Pilgrims of Hope” was a busy day when we learnt about Pope Francis, what is a pilgrimage and the Holy Doors. The children explored paint with their hands and feet and made bunting to decorate our Pre School and our doors.

Physical Development is one of our prime areas - look at the different ways the children practice and develop their gross motor skills. They used the bikes, scooters, space hoppers, to strengthen their muscles in their legs and core. They practiced throwing and catching the balls even using the basketball nets.

Our RE learning is about the beautiful sacrament of Baptism we shared some precious items from Ruben’s special day and we learnt some new key vocabulary..

Fabulous Friday we focus our learning on mathematical development - we began the day with number rhymes and active maths whereby we roll a dice count the spots and perform something physical to match the amount ( some children are beginning to subatise 😉) The compare bears were popular as the children explored different ways of sorting them by colour or size. Counting them into the pots.

On Thursdays we focus on Physical Development both Gross motor and Fine motor skills. Look at some of our learning whereby we enjoyed acting out the story of the “ Bear Hunt” in the hall., we did cosmic Yoga in the afternoon again linked to the focus book. To develop our manipulative skills we used pegs to pick up pom poms to hide in the boxes, we used thin fine paintbrushes to paint features our faces. Also threading small beads to make a necklace and drawing our family using the felt tip pens. To strengthen our muscles in our hands we explored the play dough whereby we were rolling , squeezing,,pinching and using cutters.

The children learnt about “ The Epiphany “ as we returned after the Christmas holiday. Some of them dressed up as the kings from the “ Nativity “ story” and all children could recall when baby Jesus was born and could remember the characters from the story. Some children could even remember the three gifts that the Kings bought for Baby Jesus
