Y5 Swimming 2025
Year 5 will be swimming every Tuesday afternoon at Halesowen leisure centre, week commencing 25th February 2025.
Please ensure that your child comes dressed in PE kit on that day for ease of changing and brings their swimming kit in a bag. Kit needs to be trunks for boys and swimming costumes for girls. Children may bring goggles if they wish. All children with long hair will be required to wear swimming caps so that their hair does not go in their eyes when swimming. Please remember to remove any jewellery on swimming days.
Y5 Importance of Reading
Reading promotes achievement in all subjects, not just Literacy. Children who are good readers tend to achieve better across the curriculum. Please ensure your child brings their signed reading records in each and every day! We value the contributions that parents and carers make to their child’s reading at home. Parents are the most important educators in a child’s life – even more important than their teachers – and it is never too early or too late to start reading together! Thanks, Miss W :)
Ingestre Hall Parent Meeting
Are you interested in sending your child to our Ingestre Hall residential in October? Mr Hyde will be holding a virtual meeting on Tuesday 25th February at 4.30pm to share information about this exciting trip!
BAPTISM
Year 5 are currently learning all about the Sacrament of Baptism, reflecting on Jesus’ Baptism through the role of John the Baptist. Through an in-depth study of the signs, symbols and prayers associated with the Sacrament of Baptism, children will develop a deeper knowledge of their faith. As part of this study, we are inviting children to bring in items from their own Baptism, on Wednesday 29th January 2025. This could consist of their Baptism clothing, signs or symbols which were present on the day, E.g. Baptism candle, Holy water, cross etc and photographs. If children wish to make a power point presentation to present their photographs or symbols, they may do so. When children bring in their items, please ensure that their bag is clearly labelled with their name.
RSHE UPDATE IMPORTANT 13.01.25
In Unit 4 – Life Cycles, as from Monday 13th January, children will learn about God’s design for creating new life through a more nuanced understanding of menstruation, fertility, conception, foetal development in the womb and childbirth. Some sessions talk about sexual intercourse within the context of marriage being God’s plan for the place of sex within a relationship. Framed within the Christian understanding of eternal life, a further session on death and grief helps pupils to consider and communicate about death in a direct yet gentle way, and consider ways to support themselves and others.
A separate parents-only version of this session has also been provided to allow parents the opportunity to introduce these matters at their own time and choosing. This lesson upholds and supports the teaching of the Catholic Church on sex and marriage whilst also discussing other types of relationships.
The Life to the Full programme is based on the structure of ‘A Model Catholic RSE Curriculum’ by the Catholic Education Service. This model curriculum was highlighted as a work of good practice by the Department of Education so we therefore have confidence that the programme will be fit for purpose in supporting the growth and development of your child.
Life to the Full is much more than a series of lessons. It is an entire platform of creative resources that will engage, inform and inspire our children and, indeed, you as parents. This includes interactive video content, story-based activities, employing a wide range of teaching tools, original worship music and an accompanying programme of classroom prayers.
In addition, there will be an online parent platform so that you, as parent and carers, can engage with the teaching and deepen the experience for your child.
To access the online parent platform please visit: www.tentenresources.co.uk/parent-portal
As part of our subscription to "Life to the Full", all parents will be able to access the Online Parent Portal with the following login credentials:
