KS2 SATs

SATs Assessments

At Our Lady & St Kenelm’s, children in Key Stage 2 (Year 6) take statutory assessments in English and mathematics, known as SATs. These assessments reflect the national curriculum and are designed to provide an accurate picture of each pupil’s progress.

The assessments are marked using a new grading system, which replaced the previous national curriculum levels, helping teachers, pupils, and parents understand attainment more clearly.

We prepare children carefully for SATs, ensuring they approach the tests with confidence while maintaining a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum.

At the end of Year 6, children sit tests in:

  • Reading
  • Maths
  • Spelling, punctuation and grammar

These tests are both set and marked externally, and the results are used to measure the school’s performance (for example, through reporting to Ofsted and published league tables). Your child’s marks will be used in conjunction with teacher assessment to give a broader picture of their attainment.

KS2 children do not sit a test for writing. They are assessed through Teacher Assessment throughout the year.
