Exploring Circles and Triangles

Outdoor learning day! The children took part in a phonics activity outside, they went on a scavenger hunt for objects that began with the letter sound S

In PE the children have been building on their throwing and catching skills. They moved around a carousel of activities where they could throw and catch different equipment with their partner and into hoops set with challenges.

In Pupil Prepared Prayer the children listened to the Bible story ‘Jesus is Baptised’ where they were introduced to our new Baptism unit. The children then used the water to role play baptising themselves to be welcomed into Gods family where they will be kind, show love and care for others.

This half term we are exploring and learning about celebrations! We began this week by celebrating bonfire night! We created firework patterns, paintings, fair rides in the construction area and we have explored light through different materials.

This week the children have been building on their subitising skills. They have been counting sounds, and recognising if a quantity has changed or if an arrangement has changed.

Today the children celebrated the Feast of Cana when Jesus performed a miracle and turned water into wine.

During Pupil Prepared Prayer today we cut out love hearts to thank Jesus for the love he gives us and remind him we love him too. We listened to the gospel today when Jesus was lost in the temple. We talked about how Mary and Joseph would have felt when they lost their Son.

This week in PE we have been practising our overarm throwing and catching skills with small sponge balls to improve our gross motor skills. We had to listen carefully for our name with our partner and both in the game we played as a team too.

This week we have used a variety of different objects in PE to focus on our throwing and catching we have used beanbags, small and big balls to experiment which we found easier to throw and catch.

In maths this week we have been focusing on number formation and recognising quantities of 1, 2 and 3. We have been finding different ways to recognise the quantities through carpet time and continuous provision.

During Pupil Prepared Prayer we have been listening to the story ‘twelve special friends’ when Jesus chose his disciples, we talked about how he shared with everyone and taught the disciples to go fishing for more people to follow him.

During PE we have been working on our underarm throw and catching with sponge balls.

During RE we have been learning about people who care for us, we know that the priest is special and blesses special celebrations for us like this wedding we used drama to recreate.

This week the children have continued their learning about people who care for us. Understanding that our families care and look after us, and so does God our father. They also began to understand that Jesus is the son of God and God cares for everything, even the small things.

This week we have been practicing our number and counting skills! We know that the last number in the count tells us how many there are altogether. We have been counting, objects, actions and sounds.

In PE the children have been using the bikes to explore how to travel safely with others. We talked about road safety and how their are road safety rules to keep us safe.

In Pupil Prepared Prayer the children listened to how we want to be missionaries of hope and welcome people into our classrooms with big smiling faces, we role played how we felt when we walked into a classroom with people welcoming us and people ignoring us. The children shared how they felt ‘very happy’ when we waved and welcomed them in. We then continued on from this into RE where the children learnt about the people who care and show love to them, they drew the people who cared for them around their photograph.

Exploring Gods creations through leaf rubbing. The children were so amazed when they started to see the leaf reveal through the paper.

The children were so excited to see what was inside the box. We explained to the children that inside was something very special that God had created, when they opened it up they discovered a mirror. The special gift was them!

We have been Geographers!

This week we have been learning about sorting in maths and practised sorting lots of different objects in lots of different ways.

Learning about the creation story. We explored the animals God created and created glitter stars using our fine motor skills to carefully pinch the glitter.

In Pupil Prepared Prayer we listened to how Jesus loves honesty. We spoke about ways we can be like Jesus so that we can be trusted.

Exploring the balance bikes outside

In PE this week we have been playing through games, we used a range of different equipment and decided how we can play with it independently, with a friend and using our imagination.

We have been painting Self Portraits using mirrors to explore our faces.

Building homes and churches! The children spoke about how they belong to their family at home, we then discussed how we also belong to Gods family and how much he loves us.

This afternoon the children met their Prayer Partner’s from year 6! They will be there to help support the reception children when they need it such as in assemblies and at play time as well as being a great role model to them. They spent some time getting to know one another in our classroom.

Wow! We have been so busy this week exploring our new classroom and getting to know our new friends, building like st Joseph, Counting, singing, using our gross motor skills for climbing on the adventure, creating colour monster jars, creating with playdoh and so much more!

Using our listening and attention skills to play ‘Giants Keys’- we had to listen really carefully to guess who might have the keys.

Today the children explored forest school, it rained heavily so we went into the forest school shed and sang some nursery rhymes together, when the sunshine came out we collected some different resources for our tuff tray inside !

Today the Children took part in their first PE lesson, where they explored space and the meaning of this.

This morning we have been talking about who we belong to and who is in our family. We recognise every family is different to our own but we all belong to our school and Jesus.

Wow look at what we have been learning about! We have been making birthday cards and flowers for Mary, building like St Joseph did and enjoying lots of other activities in Reception class!

Today we have been learning about how our class is a family. We know that everyone has a family at home but in school we are lucky to belong to our school family.
