Autumn 2: Stewardship of Gods Creation
Our question for this term of ‘Why is creation a gift and how do we honour that gift?’ will be explored through the Catholic Social Teaching lense of Stewardship of God’s Creation across the curriculum.
In science we will explore this through looking at energy and electricity and explore how it is our responsibility to use this energy to benefit the earth and to protect what God has given to us.
As scientists we will conduct a range of tests and gather, record, classify and present data to help answer questions. We will be using forest school throughout this half term so be ready to bring your wellies to school!
Across the curriculum we will be investigating how we can protect the Earth from climate change and what we can do as stewards to help.
Within geography we will study the different rainforests and investigate how we can best protect them from deforestation and other issues which are affecting them. We will be exploring which countries are helping us to fight against climate change and which countries are the most effected by the current changes within the world. Our earth is a wonderous place, and we will study the natural processes that occur on our earth and how this may impact God’s creation.
Children will also be encouraged to share their own ideas or experiences throughout this, allowing them to build curious minds. Throughout this study we will be continually building upon our skills and knowledge. The children will continue to answer CST Big Questions to allow them to reflect and think deeply about the creation of our earth.
Family and Community - How can we use our gifts to serve our family and community?
Gospel Virtues: Eloquent and Truthful
Our question for this term of 'how can we use our gifts to serve our family and community?' will be explored through the Catholic Social Teaching lens of Family and Community across the curriculum.
In history we explore this through being historians. We will be studying childrens lives of both Tudor and Victorian times and comparing them to the lives that we live today. As historians, we will be using both primary and secondary sources while understanding the importance of both throughout historical studies. We will be using a variety of tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 vocabulary to ensure that our language is appropriate for historical use. In history this term we will identify labour laws for children and how these have changed, how the advancement of technology has changed over time and how medicine has changed to help us live different lives. Throughout these studies we will identify how this has changed families and communities historically.
Children will also be encouraged to share their own ideas or experiences throughout this, allowing them to build curious minds. Throughout this study we will be continually building upon our skills and knowledge. Therefore, our ‘golden nuggets’ of knowledge will be embedded in our long-term memories!
