Autumn 2

Autumn 2 - Stewardship of God's Creation
What is our responsibility to future generations as Stewards of Creation?

This half term our learning is rooted in the Catholic Social Teaching theme of Stewardship of God’s Creation, guided by the question: “What is our responsibility to future generations as Stewards of Creation?" Through our Catholic teaching lense, pupils will reflect on how people balance economic needs with the responsibility to protect the environment. They discuss sustainable tourism, the impact of climate change on mountain ecosystems, and how communities can live in harmony with nature. Through being stewards of creation, pupils will recognise the Alps as part of God’s beautiful world and reflect on our duty to care for it responsibly.

In this topic, pupils will explore the Alpine region of Europe to understand what life is like for people who live and work there. They learn how geography, climate, tourism, and human activity shape the Alps, and how people are called to care for this unique environment as stewards of God’s creation. Children will use maps, data, and images to investigate the physical geography of the Alps — including mountain ranges, glaciers, rivers, and valleys — and consider how the landscape influences settlement, transport, and tourism. They compare the Alps with the UK’s mountain regions, deepening their understanding of place, diversity, and interdependence.

By the end of the unit, children appreciate that geography is not just about places on a map, but about people, faith, and responsibility. They see themselves as young stewards, inspired to protect God’s Earth and to make thoughtful, compassionate choices that promote a sustainable future.
