Hello and welcome to your new class page. I hope you have had a wonderful summer holiday making lots of fantastic memories with your families. We cannot wait to welcome you into Year 4 and hope that you are as excited to return back to school in September as us. Please read through this page where hopefully we can answer some of your questions about the exciting world of Year 4!

What is expected of me in Year 4?

Year 4 is going to be your chance to really shine as members of Key Stage 2. We are so excited to welcome you back into school. We are going to work very hard but also have lots of fun along the way. We will be here to help, support and guide you with all of your learning, but we are also going to help you to become independent learners by giving you the tools and strategies to solve problems yourselves. We would love you to really take on more responsibility in Year 4, especially for remembering all of your school equipment. It would really help your adults at home a lot if you remembered your own book bags, PE/swimming kits, reading books, and reading diaries. Reading books and reading diaries need to be in school every day. Remember to ask an adult to sign your reading diary when you have read at home (it would be super helpful for them if you have a pen ready when you ask them) and remember to complete all of your homework and bring it in to school on the correct day. In the summer term, you will be doing a special times tables check so we are going to be working very hard to master our times tables with lots of fun activities. We can’t wait to continue your learning journey with you.

Class Dojo and Minutes

This year, we will continue to use Dojos- each of you has a little monster character and you will earn points from teachers for all the good and kind things you do around school. There are lots of opportunities to earn Dojos- for being kind, helpful, working hard, showing and sharing your Gospel Values, being resilient, persevering even when things are tricky, participating in learning, completing homework, using your manners and lots more. So make sure you are always doing your best to shine out and be the best you can be!

As usual, we will be having Golden Time on a Friday, so if you make the wrong behaviour choices then you will be given minutes off that time. I hope that now you are Year 4, you are sensible enough to make the right choices so that I won't be needing to hand out minutes!

What homework will I get?

Monday- Spellings handed out and are to be learnt ready for the following Monday.

Book Review focus to be handed out every other week. Book reviews to be completed once a fortnight and handed in on a Monday (dates for handing in will be indicated on focus question). Book Reviews will be explained in a further letter.

Thursday- EBL question handed out and research to be completed for the following Thursday.

Friday- Maths homework handed out and to be completed for the following Friday.

Our first Enquiry Based Learning topic this year is What impact did the Roman Empire have on Britain? You have already been given your first enquiry based learning question to research over the summer and I know that you will love learning about it and will find out lots of amazing things! You will be given your enquiry question every week with a week to complete it. Remember- you need your research to help you with your learning so make sure it is done on time.

If you lose your homework- please come and ask me before it is due so I can get you a new sheet. Homework is really important. Remember if it is not done at home you will have to do it in your own time at school.

PE, Swimming and Forest School

We will be having swimming every Tuesday and PE every Wednesday.

Mrs Morris will also be taking us out for forest school every few weeks on a Friday and I know that she has got lots of exciting activities planned!

Make sure you remember whichever kit you need for the right day so that you can take part in everything!

We can't wait for the exciting year that lies ahead.

God Bless

Mrs Smith and Miss Shepherd heart
