Are humans called to love?
The Catholic tradition teaches that human dignity can be protected and a healthy community can be achieved only if human rights are protected and responsibilities are met. Therefore, every person has a fundamental right to life and a right to those things required for human decency. Corresponding to these rights are duties and responsibilities- to one another, to our families, and to the larger society. Children will learn about their rights and how they look after the rights of others.
In history, children will develop their knowledge of events beyond living memory and reinforce their chronological understanding by looking at significant people and events and history. Children will:
- Describe significant people from the past.
- Use a timeline to develop chronological language eg past, present, older, newer.
- Use historical vocabulary eg past, present, long ago, timeline.
Ask some questions about the past.
Use artefacts, pictures, stories and online sources to find out about the past.
