Information for Farm Trip - 6.6.19

  • Please send your child with a packed lunch in a carrier bag.
  • Children will need to arrive at school and be collected from school at normal times.
  • If your child requires anti-sickness medicine, please do not forget to give this to them before they arrive at school.
  • Rain is currently forecast throughout the day on Thursday, so children MUST bring a water proof with them.
  • Should we be extremely lucky with the weather, it may be necessary for your child to be wearing sun cream. They can bring sun cream with them should they need to apply more throughout the day, however members of staff are not able to apply suncream for them.
  • Please send children in suitable clothing - preferably old clothes and trainers.

Phonics Screening

In June, all children in Year 1 will sit their Phonics screening test. This will involve the children using the sounds they have learnt in phonics lessons to decode and read a range of real words and 'alien' words (made up words). The work we are doing in Read Write Inc. throughout the year has been preparing the children for their Phonics Screening Test. Please see the documents below for any information you need to know about the Phonics Screening.

Reading

We encourage parents to read with their child every day. We will focus heavily on phonics and reading throughout the academic year, but reading at home is also really important for your child. Children will have an opportunity to change their reading book every morning when they arrive at school, providing they have read it, so please ensure you write in their reading record every time you hear them read. Please see the documents below for guidance on hearing your child read at home.

This week for E-Safety week we learnt a story about Smartie the penguin who faced some tricky decisions when he was playing games online. We learnt a song to remind us how to stay safe online and wrote our own advice bubbles using ideas from the story.

This week is UK Parliament week and we've been learning about what parliament is and why it is important. We learnt the meaning of the word 'Democracy' and talked about why it is so important that everybody should be allowed to vote. We even had our very own class debate about cats and dogs!

6.11.18 - The children really enjoyed sharing their learning with their parents today! Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it. What a lovely, positive end to the afternoon!

6.9.18 - Meeting Louise

Today Year 1 met Louise, the class rabbit. She was very friendly and liked hopping around the classroom and finding places to hide! We learnt about how to look after a rabbit and also discovered that Louise likes to eat bananas!
