National Science Week - Understanding the World / The children are beginning to learn about Space and enjoyed experiencing the Space Dome when it came to school. Look at some of the experiments we have explored as Scientists 🧑🔬.
The children listened with increased attention to a variety of musical instruments and tried to match the correct sound to the correct instrument - only using their sense of “ Hearing “ We are also building up a repertoire of songs and rhymes which is developing the children’s communication and language, which is key for Early Years Development.
This week in our Catholic Social Teaching we learnt a new word “ Refugee “ we explored this through a story and reflected on all the things we are Thankful and Grateful for in our lives at home and school. During the continuous provision the children wrote on hearts to give thanks, they built houses “ To welcome a Stranger “ and provide a homes for others. We even explored the paint with our feet and thought about walking in someone else’s shoes ( beginning to show empathy ) The children are loving our new hymn “ Thank You Lord for this new day” it is such an uplifting hymn and the children sing it with such enthusiasm.
The children were keen to play a part in our focus story “ Peace at Last” they listened attentively and joined in with the new vocabulary learnt from the story. The actors are beginning to add expression as they take on their character and perform with confidence in front of their peers.
Look at the many ways your children are practising and developing their fine motor skills.
Mathematical Development - the children enjoyed exploring numbers, counting and pattern work.
The children are growing in confidence when using the Flappers to warm up. Our focus was to travel in a variety of ways to represent many of Gods wonderful animals, linked to our Creation story. The children are beginning to become aware of each other as they travel around the large space, they are developing their spacial awareness. As part of our PE curriculum the children are learning how to play team games such as Duck,Duck Goose
Physical Development- The children enjoyed taking an active part in cosmic yoga. We began the session by talking about what happens to our body when we exercise. They used their listening ears and attempted to move their bodies in different ways, showing flexibility and core strength.
The children listened attentively during Prayer - Liturgy and enjoyed choosing items to place on the Prayer Area. They are beginning to learn words such as Bible, God the Creator, creation and trying really hard to bless themselves. After recapping on the “ Creation “ story we actively sang “ Our God is a Great Big God” with such enthusiasm. We then learnt a new hymn “ If I were a Butterfly “ 🦋 and again ALL joined in with super actions. Linking it to our learning of God making everything in the world. The continuous provision was Creation llinked whereby the children celebrated ALL the creatures that God has made on the land, sea and sky. They also explored the torches 🔦 in the playhouse thinking about light and dark.
The children enjoyed exploring Forest School and showing care and respect to the bugs they found. They also had fun out on the big playground 😊
We are so impressed with how all our new children have settled in to our setting - it really feels like we our “ A Family “ all learning and working together.
Personal, Social and Emotional Focus is fundamental to our children’s overall development - look at how they interact together during the first full week.
The children were so excited when a birthday parcel 📦 arrived to Pre School and we explored the contents which consisted of banners, balloons, cards, gifts , candles and cakes. The children were keen to know whose Birthday 🎁 it was so we introduced our beautiful statue of our class Saint Mother Mary . This was an introduction to our new children to meeting Mother Mary and begin to understand that she is Jesus’ mummy and recognise the important person she is in our Catholic Faith. This is linked to our topic “ Family and Community “ through our Catholic Social Teaching.
We think they are happy to have joined our family at Little Kenelms- their smiles speak volumes. These photographs were taken to add to our “ Family Tree” in Pre School and the one in school.
Physical Development is one of our Prime Areas of learning in Early Years - Here are the children exploring the Adventure Playground. Climbing, balancing, negotiating space, awareness of others, swinging, stepping up and down .
Our focus story this week is “ The Colour Monster “ we shared it with the children and we created the actual jars to represent their different emotions. This is key for the child to visually see the different jars, know the emotion and talk about it. We leave this out in our Pre School for the children to access whenever they need it . ( It’s a great talking tool)
Our first PE lesson in the HUGE HALL with our new children - they remembered our safety rules “ To use their listening ears and focus eyes to be aware of their friends in such a big space “
The children loved using the bikes and scooters in our playground- these are important opportunities to develop their gross motor skills ( physical development) Which is one of the Prime Areas for Early Years.
