Grow your own beanstalk
The children have been given the challenge of growing their own beanstalk during the Easter break (some children may have planted sunflower seeds too). Please help them to take care of their plants and bring them back on Monday 19th April - a prize will be given to the tallest beanstalk (or sunflower).
Thank you for all your support this term, fingers crossed for a 'normal' Summer term!!
Love Miss Mallin xx
You may have spotted a 'blending book' in your child's book bag, these are to give the children extra practises at blending (moving on to sight reading words). These will be changed on a weekly basis to give the children chance to learn to blend the words/sight read the words on their own. Thank you x
A number of children are bringing in a packed lunch when they have a dinner ordered, resulting in lots of food going to waste. If your child is going to bring a packed lunch into school, please make sure their hot dinner has been cancelled. Thank you, Miss Mallin
A number of children in YR have been talking about video/computer games they are playing at home. Please make sure your child is playing and watching age appropriate games, as we are witnessing some of the behaviours they may be seeing on these games.
If this continues, I will be contacting the individual parents of the children.
Thank you, Miss Mallin
Balance ability is on Fridays so please make sure your child comes into school in appropriate clothing as it is non-uniform day.

SPACE ART DAY - 08.01.21
What better way to start a new topic with an art day!
We're going to be exploring different textures to create representations of each planet so please can the children come to school in old clothes that you don't mind getting messy! As it is also Balance Ability, old joggers and an old t-shirt which they can then wear for Balance Ability would be great!

During this first term (whilst we fill in gaps from missed learning as a result of lockdown), we want the children to experiences a range of books in order to understand the structure of stories. Therefore your child might come home with either a lilac or a pink banded story book, please discuss the story with your child and encourage them to use the pictures to help them re-tell the story. As teaching of phonics continues, they may start to recognise letters or even words. Model sounding the words out and encourage them to copy you.

What a month we have had!! The children in YR have settled into OLSK school life and continue to amazing us every single day!
Unfortunately, due to the demands of teaching and learning I cannot have time out of class to complete phone calls to update you On your child’s progress. I know it's such a strange time and a massive transition into school life but I can assure you that if I had any concerns or worries I would be in contact. In an ideal world I would be able to feedback to you on the gate in a morning and an afternoon, there will be an Autumn term report coming home the end of October. This will include how the children have settled into school and any targets to work on at home.
Thank you for being so understanding, stay safe. Miss Mallin x
Target Tracker Link: Target Tracker is finally up and running, keep checking your emails for login details, soon you'll be able to see what we're learning about on your phone! Thank you for your patience!
Book Bags: Please make sure your child's book bag is in school everyday, soon we will be giving out library books to share at home.
Labels: Please make sure all coats, jumpers, cardigans and water bottles have got names on. Thank you.
Healthy Snack: Reception children have access to our fruit basket for their healthy snack during break times, alternatively you can send your child in with their own healthy snack (we only have a 15 minute break so only one snack is needed).
Picking up: When picking up your child from school, please only wave when your child is at the front of the line. As I am still getting to know your faces, it can become confusing if multiple people are waving at the same time.
If you are ever running late to pick your child up or someone that we have not met before is picking up, please ring the office to let us know. Thank you.
Target Tracker Link: Thank you for your forms I have had back, regarding Target Tracker Link, unfortunately the software is being updated. As soon as it is up and running again, you will receive an email explaining how to access your child's observations. Thank you for you patience.
Parent & teacher meetings: when arriving at school, please wait at the green gates for either myself or Miss Beasley to escort you across the playground. Due to social distancing, we cannot offer a waiting area for you so please make sure you are on time for your meeting but also not too early (especially if it’s raining).
We are on a tight time schedule to be able to meet with you all, the aim of these meetings are to gather information about your child before they start school and Monday’s intake meeting will focus on The formalities of school life.
I look forward to finally meeting you all!
Miss Mallin x
Every Wednesday please come to school wearing your PE kit! Ready for an active day! Thank you x
Please can you bring a small bag of spare clothes with your child when they start school, this bag can stay at school on their peg until it is needed. Thank you.
