E-Safety Week
Picture 1

Monday 6th February - Friday 10th February

This week in school we are supporting E-Safety Week with activities and events across all year groups in school. We are following the SMART campaign, which helps children remember what to do and what not to do in order to keep themselves and others safe online.

The internet can be a wonderful place when used safely and appropriately, but children need to be taught how to do this. Here are some things you may wish to consider in terms of your child's online safety.

Selfies - Taking selfies is very popular but this comes with concerns that your child may be sending inappropriate pictures of themselves. Focus on encouraging less sharing of photos online.

Cyber-Bullying - Bullying online can be just as devastating as bullying in the 'real world' - help by being actively involved in your child's use of the internet.

Online grooming - Look out for changes in behaviour such as wanting to spend more time on the internet, being secretive about what they're doing online, switching screens when you come near the computer, using language you wouldn't expect them to know and/or becoming emotionally volatile.

Digital Footprints - The internet has a good memory, it keeps a record of everything we do online. Encouraging your children to keep a positive online reputation is essential now and for their future. Most potential employers carry out internet searches of candidates!

Social Media - Consider the legal age restrictions on social media sites. Are you taking responsibility for your children on such sites?

ICT Wizards work with Artist to design futuristic ICT Suite

The ICT Wizards have paired up with Matt Johnson, local artist and past pupil of the school, to plan, design and create a futuristic design for their ICT Suite. The children worked with Matt over a number of weeks to bring their designs to life and create a wonderful space for learning. All of the Wizards work with Mrs Finnegan, head teacher and lead ICT Wizard, to ensure that all the children in school have the skills to use all the new technology including, iPads, Nintendo DS, Netbooks, computers and cameras. The Wizards then pass on their skills to all the other children in school to enable them to access the new Computing Curriculum

New ICT Suite

This week in school the ICT Wizards from Key Stage Two have been working with students form Newman University to learn all about staying safe whilst using the internet.

The Wizards learnt all about E-Safety and created posters with KS1, including Reception Class, posters with Years 1 & 2, booklets with Y3 & 4 and powerpoints and leaflets with Y5 & Y6.

They shared all their learning with the whole school and the parents in an E-Safety Assembly at the end of the week. All of their work is showcased on a fabulous display in school. Well done everyone!
