Hello! Welcome to your new class page. I hope you have had a brilliant summer holiday and are excited to return back to school in September. Please read through this page where hopefully we can answer some of your questions about the exciting world of year 3!

Mrs Mitchell - Monday-Tuesday
Mrs Sweeney- Wednesday-Friday
Mrs McCahill- Our fantastic teaching assistant! Mrs McCahill is new to our school and I know you will make her very welcome. She can't wait to meet you!
Mrs Nixon- Super talented Mrs Nixon who will be delivering exciting art days.
What is expected of me in year 3?
Year 3 is an exciting new step for you. You are ready to be part of KS2 - and we cant wait to have you! We hope you are excited to. I know with that excitement will also come a few nerves and maybe some anxiety about the expectations of KS2. We will support and guide you every step of the way so that you develop your confidence, independence and thirst for learning and really set the foundations. We will work hard - but we will also have lots of fun too! We want you to be curious, to challenge yourselves and to support each other so that we can create together a dynamic learning environment.
As you know, in Year 3 we make our First Holy Communion. This will include making the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We will work together in class using a class book 'Learning and Growing as People of God' and we will ask you to do some activities at home as well. This is a commitment - this means that we expect you to put 100% effort and more into this special part of your spiritual journey. This will come in many ways - through listening, praying, sharing and working together. We invite every child in Year 3 to be a part of this journey together.
Class Dojo and Minutes
This year, instead of house points, we will be using Dojos- each of you has a little monster character and you will earn points from teachers for all the good and kind things you do around school- you can even give the teachers points!
As usual, we will be having Golden Time on a Friday, so if you make the wrong behaviour choices then you will be given minutes off that time. I hope that now you are Year 3, you are sensible enough to make the right choices so that I won't be needing to hand out minutes!
What homework will I get?
Our first Enquiry Based Learning topic this year is all about Why did the Egyptians Make the Pyramids. I know that you will love learning about it and will find out lots of amazing things! You will be given your enquiry question every week with a week to complete it. Remember- you need your research to help you with your learning so make sure it is done on time.
You will also have maths and spellings every week and you will get a whole week to complete and practice these too. If you lose your homework- please come and ask me before the day its due so I can get you a new sheet. Spellings will be given out Mondays for the following Monday and Maths will given out on Fridays for the following Friday.
You will also will asked to complete homework activities as part of your Sacramental Preparation.
Reading is a crucial part of your learning journey so make sure you are reading daily, being heard read by an adult at home and enjoying a wide range of books.
Homework is really important. Remember if it is not done at home you will have to do it in your own time at school.
PE, Swimming and Forest School
UPDATE: Swimming will begin on Tuesday 27th April. Come to school wearing your PE Kit, with your swimming kit packed in a bag. ALL Year 3 children will finish school at 3.15pm on Tuesdays due to when we arrive back from swimming.
We will be having PE on a Wednesday as normal with RB Sports and you can wear your kit all day.
Mrs Morris will also be taking us out for forest school every few weeks and I know that she has got lots of exciting activities planned!
Make sure you remember whichever kit you need for the right day so that you can take part in everything!
Will things be different because of COVID?
Thankfully, we will be returning to school as a whole class and will be altogether in our year 3 bubble in one room.We will keep apart from other classes but you will see them from a distance on the playground. We will start school at 9.00 (you will come in earlier if you have a younger brother or sister) and will finish at 3.15 (or when your brother or sister goes home). We will still have a break and dinner time as normal but will be assigned to a different area of the playground each day.
We won't have whole school assemblies but our collective worship in class will still go ahead and you will have the chance to lead prayers.
We hope this information answers some of your questions. We will go through it all with you on your first day in Year 3. Don't be afraid to ask any questions.
