In this history driver, we will be exploring the history and geography curriculum through the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World! As historians, we will progress our chronological knowledge by comparing the history of the 7 Wonders with other periods of history we have studied. We will identify similarity and difference between the ancient wonders and significance of their existence both historically and culturally (informed through a variety of sources contributing to our knowledge).
By exploring the Ancient Pyramids of Giza through and in depth study, we will understand the achievements of one of the earliest civilisations –Ancient Egypt- and how they have impacted our modern world. We will also extend our knowledge of a non-European society that provides contrasts with British history by exploring the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and its cultural and historical impact.
Our geographical skills will also be revisited, progressed and utilised throughout this topic by identifying where each Ancient Wonder was/ is in accordance its position and significance of latitude, longitude, Equator, Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn through the use of maps and atlases. We will also compare how ancient civilisations used the land to create trade links and economic activity and compare it to that of communities today.
Through revisiting and progressing our skills and learning, these golden nuggets of knowledge will be embedded in our long term memories!
