Year 1’s Book Sale

Getting ready for our Acorns Children’s Hospice book sale!! Come and join us - Tuesday 27th & Wednesday 28th March at 3.15pm

Science Week in Year 1

During prayer day, we started the day by learning about
Zacchaeus. We thought about what type of person he was before he met Jesus and why he decided to change his ways. We discuss things that we would like to change in our own lives and why.

During our time in the hall, we prayed for forgiveness by dropping a dirty stone into clean water in order to wipe the slate clean and start a fresh. We prayed for all of the things we are thankful for and made models with playdough to share our thoughts. Finally we thought about the ‘big questions’ we would like to ask God.

Today was a great way to reflect on our own lives and think about how to become more like Jesus.

What a fantastic start to our new topic, thank you for sending in such lovely memories (photographs and old toys). The children loved sharing their memories with each other and with the teachers in the class.

Our new science topic is ... animals! Take a look at the two new, furry members of Year 1!

Making Soup -

After learning about what different plants need in order to grow, we discovered some vegetables in our outside area. We washed, chopped and cooked them in order to make our own vegetable soup.

We followed instructions well, handling some every sharp equipment sensibly. During Get Writing we then described our soup.

Active Maths - Every Friday we re-cap the skills we have learnt during the week. Active maths gives us the opportunity to apply what we have learnt in a range of fun and exciting ways. Take a look at what we have been up to this half term!

Something amazing happened in Year 1! When came back into class after break a quiet, small voice was coming from the cupboard. It was a lost bear! He was holding a letter…

'Help! Can you help me? I’ve tried to ask so many people for help but everyone is so busy.

My home has been destroyed in last nights storm—can you help me make a shelter for my family?

Remember bears need lots of room to move about in and there’s 4 bears in my family!

Thank you so much for your help, I knew I could count on Year 1.'

We took on the challenge and in small groups, we worked together to make a shelter for the lost bear and his family. We all worked together as a team, sharing and listening to ideas. We even decided to join forces and create an even bigger shelter for the bear and his family. We had so much fun that we’re going to try and make our shelters even bigger later on in the week!
